Back to work!

.

I am back from vacation and quite busy already. I have been navigating details of this next commission for the wellness suites in Bloomington, MN. I am quite excited to create for a healing space. The inspiration behind this piece is a nearby nature preserve - Prairie Bluff Conservation Area in Eden Prairie. Check out this beautiful color scheme!

Another trip home

Long awaited trip to Poland. We started out in Gdansk, my first time there. It is indeed as spectacular as they say it is. Lots of color, culture, festivals, history, and great food. Then we visited castle of the Teutonic Order - Malbork, which is the largest castle in the world measured by land area. What an amazing historical journey through the 13th and 14th century!

You can’t leave the North of Poland without visiting the Baltic Sea. The beach, seals island trip, swimming, and LOTS of amber. I left wondering whether I was “the mountains or the sea side gal.” To be honest an impossible choice, as both are just beautiful and must see in Poland.

We spent the rest of our time visiting family and doing smaller trips to our favorite towns and parks like Kazimierz Dolny, Ojcow, Ogrodzieniec and of course my beloved - Krakow. We concluded our trip in Warsaw. It was time well spent!

Letting go…

This piece has been on my mind. It is another one inspired by volcanoes of HI, as well as my clinical work. “Letting go” is a tribute to moving on and releasing what keeps us stuck whether it is difficult upbringing, trauma, or loss. It is about making space for a new experience, inner peace, and growth.

Pele 2

.

I created this piece for an upcoming exhibition. I am still not quite done with the lava themed tapestries. I am slowly working toward a larger project, an idea I have been nurturing for quite some time now, where I could blend my work as a psychotherapist and artist. Stay tuned.

Back at work

I am back from vacation filled with appreciation for the greens in this piece! I love the idea of a “hanging garden.” Fibers are such a great medium to work with! The colors and texture are a true treat. A lot of the art-yarn used in this tapestry was hand made by artists around the country.

A little break

Time for some sunshine and humidity! As you know Spring Break in MN is time for me to get away for a bit. The long winter, short days, dry air, and what feels like not enough sun light get to me by March. This year we’re traveling to Tulum, Mexico. Perfect inspiration for the next commission!

New beginning

New and not so new I guess. This is a small commission, a different version of Amber. I had a lot of fun making it and playing with color. I’m happy with how it turned out, similar but unique in its own way.

Current State of Things

.

Here’s another piece I am making for the show The Art of Mental Health. I have been experimenting with coiling and negative space. As it usually is the case, this piece evolved as I was making it.

Over the past few years trauma and loss have been so prevalent in my conversations with clients, colleagues, and friends. I debated how to call this one. Then in the light of most recent events and threats to what we once trusted and perceived as reliable and “safe,” I decided to name it Current State of Things.

The black represents the grief and sadness due to the loss of what we once thought we knew. The red, wounds and hurt that permeates our psyche creating disruptions and raptures, pushing down its heaviness to the deepest of our unconscious.

Despite the darkness of this piece, I remain hopeful. Organizing this exhibition has been a powerful and energizing experience. Over 30 mental health practitioners will participate in it, eager to express their artistic voices. I can’t wait to tell you more about it!
